

SHALLOTTE — Hugh Mark Gore, 55, of Shallotte, died suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Gore was born in Columbus County on April 15, 1961, and was the son of the late Hubert and Audrey Neklanski Gore. He was also preceded in death by a brother Jim Gore.
He was a devoted husband and father and servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his community. He was a member and chief of the Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad from 1989 until its closure in 2008.
Mr. Gore was one of the first six paid paramedics with Brunswick County EMS on April 1, 1991 and was currently serving as their Director of Operations. He also served as a paramedic with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team for five years.
His achievements include, North Carolina Paramedic, North Carolina technical rescue technician, disaster medical specialist, tactical paramedic, North Carolina level four emergency management coordinator, urban search and rescue technician (USAR), advanced disaster medical life support, North Carolina Helo Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) operations support specialist. He also completed numerous NIMS, HAZMAT and CBRNE classes, including incident command management and that of a North Carolina appointed medical examiner. He served as deputy coroner in Brunswick County for 15 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shallotte, an ordained deacon and U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Marie Gore; his children, Brittany Faith Gore and Shelby Grace Gore, both of Shallotte, Mark Cullen Gore and Hillary Batten, both of Chadbourn; a granddaughter, Kaiya Nichole Lynn Batten of Chadbourn; and a brother, Chris Gore of Ocean Isle.
A funeral service will be held Thursday Oct. 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Brunswick Community College Odell Williamson Auditorium with Reverend Jason Benton and Reverend Bob Weathers officiating. An interment service will follow in Brunswick Memorial Gardens with honors given by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Randy Wilkes, Shane Pittman, Rich Burns, Art Dornfeld, Brian Watts, Bill Britt, Tim Corcoran, John Goodwin, George Grainger. Honorary pallbearers will be, David Moore, Ronnie Hayes, David Long, Joel Bibey, Wayne Brown, Dean Siler and employees of Brunswick County EMS.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, at First Baptist Church Shallotte, 4486 Main St., Shallotte.
In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in his name be directed to State Employees Credit Union P.O. Box 306 Shallotte, NC 28459 for a college fund for Mark’s daughters, Brittany and Shelby.
