

WILMINGTON — Marion Maier, 88, of Wilmington, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord, on Oct. 10, 2016. She was born in Bronx, New York, on Feb. 10, 1928, to the late Etta Lowe and John Lechleitner.
Marion grew up in the Bronx during World War II and in 1947 married an EX-POW and decorated war veteran James Russell Maier.
She spent several years in the Bronx taking care of her father, after she was married. Later she moved to Long Island to raise her two sons, James Russell and Thomas John Maier.
Marion was a teacher and dedicated football Mom during her years on Long Island. In the 1990s Marion and her husband retired to Wilmington, North Carolina, to be with their grandchildren, Thomas James Maier, wife Whitney, and Kristin Zamorski, and her husband Joe.
Marion spent many years playing golf and enjoying parties with her Inland Greens community. Marion spent the last 10 years of her life watching her four great grandsons, Jace and Talen Maier, and Joseph and Julian Zamorski, play and grow.
A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 18, in St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Marion will be buried with her one true love in Arlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center.
