WILMINGTON — Grace Lucille Creech Griffin, 98, of Trinity Grove in Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016. She was born in 1918 in Hallsboro, N.C., as the daughter of the late Hicks Creech and Mamie Maultsby Creech.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Griffin; daughter in law, Sylvia Griffin; sister, Teeney Penley and her brothers, Howard, Hennen, Brooks, and Bobby Creech.

She is survived by her four children, sons Jimmy and Ronnie Griffin of Wilmington and daughters Judith Dean and husband Rufus of Wilmington, Linda Godfrey and husband Neil of Whispering Pines, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Wanda Fey Moser of Chicago, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a lifetime member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church in Wilmington, an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting, especially caps for the homeless. Bingo and puzzles were two of her many favorite pastimes and she enjoyed the company of her special friends and residents at Trinity Grove. Known as a hard worker and a loving and devoted mother, she was the matriarch of a large extended family who was blessed to be in the presence of her children when she went to be with the Lord.

She was loved and cherished by family and friends and will be dearly missed. We send a special heartfelt thanks to all the staff who touched her life and became like family to her.

Funeral Services will be conducted by Reverend Rachel Connelly at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Services on Oleander Drive. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1131 Shipyard Blvd. in Wilmington, N.C. The family will receive friends at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be made at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation.
