James F. “Jim” Rogers Sr., 83, believed in doing the right thing

WILMINGTON — James F. Rogers Sr., “Jim”, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Jim was born on Aug. 12, 1933, in Pender County to the late Charles R. and Ola Bell Rogers.

He is predeceased by his wife, Ann Rusher Rogers; and by a sister, Helen Daniels, and brothers, Raymond Rogers and Elmore Rogers.

He is survived by daughter, Teresa Holzwarth (Roy); son, Frank Rogers (Susan); one granddaughter, Christina Hawkins; one grandson, Matthew Rogers; one step-grandson, Todd Holzwarth (Karen); and two step-great-grandchildren, Campbell and Kelsea. Jim is also survived by sisters, Etta Mae Rooks of Rocky Point, and Ola Bell Ball of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim overcame some personal challenges in his life and was always there to help friends who faced similar obstacles. He lived his life one day at a time and believed in always doing the next right thing.

A memorial service will be held at Ogden Baptist Church, 7121 Market St., on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 1 p.m. The family will greet guests after the service and all other times at the residence, 301 Pierpoint Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28405.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to Ogden Baptist Church Youth or Van Fund, 7121 Market Street, Wilmington, NC, 28411, or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401.
