

WILMINGTON — Albert “Slade” Bass, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, following an extended illness.
Slade leaves his loyal wife of 63 years, Peggy (Barnes) Bass and their children Pamela (Walter) Smith, Jimmy (Renee) Bass, Cynthia (Steve) Nisbet, Sherri (Neal) Dunn, and Amy Bass Stone. Peggy and Slade have 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Slade was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Chadbourn, N.C., to W. J. and Bertha (Buffkin) Bass. Slade served in the United States Army in his early years. He and Peggy retired from Tiny Tot Day Care, which they owned and operated for 26 years. Slade was a member of Temple Baptist Church. In his free time, he was an avid woodworker and master gardener.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the opportunity for friendly visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family also received friends at the Bass residence on 108 Borden Avenue on Sunday from 2-5 p.m.
