WILMINGTON — Dr. Robert “Bob” D. Stansbury, 82, of Wilmington, North Carolina, loving husband, father, and grandfather, joined Jesus in heaven on Oct. 26, 2016, and is finally at peace after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Snyder), of 62 years of marriage, sons Carlton and Curtis, grandchildren, Dale and Hannah, and brother Daryl (Arlene). His son, Charles, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Richard (Patricia) Snyder, and his daughter-in-law, Judy. He is survived by many other nieces and nephews.

Robert was born on June 7, 1934, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Otto and Ileta (Birch) Stansbury. He received his B.A. and Masters from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He served in the National Guard. After serving many years as Vice President of UNI in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he served as Assistant Chancellor at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He served tirelessly in leadership positions in many organizations including Rotary International, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, and Lutheran Services of the Carolinas.

He will be remembered for his love, faith, generosity, wisdom, and humor. His fine pieces of carpentry will always remind family and friends of his skills and attention to detail. All who knew and loved him will miss him.

We thank all of the wonderful caregivers who took such loving care of the entire family.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, or Trinity Grove.
