

HAMPSTEAD — Cynthia Jean Braswell, 51, of Hampstead N.C., passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 10, 2016, on her way to work in an automobile accident.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Michael L Braswell; her three children, Jacob R Braswell, Katelyn M Braswell, and Matthew P. Braswell; along with her two sisters and brother.
She was born on April 7, 1965, in Orange, New Jersey, and grew up in Summit New Jersey before moving to Toms River, New Jersey. Daughter of the late Richard Jenkins and Barbara Grenke Jenkins.
She was in the graduating class of 1983 from Toms River South High school. After she graduated high school she went on to pursue her nursing degree from Felician College in Lodi, New Jersey, along with studying at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey. Meeting her wonderful husband through the friendship she had with Michael’s sister, Sharon Braswell, they began their long journey of life time best friends. At the celebration of her sister’s wedding they began their courtship which continued on for 31 years. They tied the knot on September 10, 1988.
She was one that always loved to travel whenever she could fit it into her busy schedule. A trip she had always dreamed of taking was to the beautiful state of Alaska which came true on her 25th wedding anniversary. Along with this trip she has traveled to many other states while supporting her beloved husband as he continues to move up the ladder in the American Legion.
She loved her holidays with her family and always made sure the table was full of goodies to eat. Along with being an amazing cook she loved to bake and that was shown during the holiday season when she would bake 20 different flavored cookies and have them sitting in the dining room along the back wall.
Alongside with her family she was a wonderful supporter and active member of the American Legion Auxiliary thru Post 167 of Hampstead N.C., along with being active state wide. She was the Unit President for the Auxiliary out of Post 167 for 6 years, along with being District President and moving up to Division President for two years. Along with this organization she was in charge of the C.H.A.P.S. program for Topsail Township, where she distributed toys and food to needed families during the holidays for the past 10 years.
She was a registered nurse at New Hanover Regional Medical center where she helped bring babies into this world on the labor and delivery floor for the past 20 years.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at Andrews Hampstead Chapel, 17730 Hwy. 17 N., Hampstead, NC 28443. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Road, Wilmington NC 28411 with visitation starting at 11:30 a.m. Burial held in Sea Lawn Memorial Park will be private.
