Daphne May (Lines) Bridwell, 71, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 18, 2016. Daphne was born Jan. 24, 1945, in Portland, Oregon, and resided in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. She was a devoted wife, mother, and loving grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; two children, son Brandon of Fairfax, Va., and a daughter Michelle Bridwell of San Diego, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Therese Bridwell; two grandchildren, Darby and Brady Bridwell; a sister, Selva DuHamel; and a brother, Thomas Lines.
Daphne was the daughter of Arthur and Emilyn (McColl) Lines. She spent her childhood and early adulthood in San Diego. After graduating from Mission Bay High School, Daphne attended San Diego State University as an accounting major. Her studies were, however, interrupted when a young Naval Officer (Don) “whisked her away” in marriage in 1968 for a life of continuous loving support, with multiple moves for the later family to many diverse locations including Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Texas, Washington, D.C., and finally, Bermuda, prior to their retirement to North Carolina in 2003.
Daphne had a very outgoing, sparkling personality that was a magnet to all she met. She was adored by both family and friends. Daphne was a great listener, but always ready to give you her direct, sometimes contrary, view of a particular discussion matter. A deeply religious and socially conscious person, she was an active member of Seaside United Methodist Church. Daphne expressed her faith through many volunteer arenas and was a consummate bible study student, often taking concurrently multiple bible study courses during her retirement years.
Daphne was also an avid reader and gardener, enjoyed social bridge and other related gatherings, and was very active in tennis and golf prior to her three fights with cancer. She was also noted throughout her life to always have a Boston Terrier dog close to her side. Obviously, Daphne will be sorely missed by all that knew this lovely person.
A memorial service for Daphne will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Seaside United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that any memorials in her name be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice (SECU Hospice House) 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
