

WILMINGTON — Robert William Pyle, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, departed this life to join his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016.
Born on September 7, 1925, in Elizabeth, W.Va., Robert was the son of Kelso W. and Nora Ethel Pyles. He had two brothers and two sisters, one of whom survives him, Betty Congleton.
Surviving as well are his loving wife of 29 years, Shirley Toler Pyle; children, Jerry Pyles, and wife, Linda, Pamela Pyles Freyer and Steve Pyles; step-children, Lisa Moore Harris, and husband, Rodney, Laurie Moore Register, and husband, Keith, and Melissa Moore Fenton, and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Shawn Pyles, and wife, Audra, Amy Pyles Strobush, and husband, Lucas, Kelly Freyer Jenness, and husband, Brian, William Freyer, and wife, Nickie, Breanna Pyles Jones, and husband, Jeff, and Destinee Pyles; step-grandchildren, Lindsey Register, Jacob Register, Matthew Register, Andrew Harris and Sydney Lusk); and great-grandchildren, Nolan Pyles, Charlotte Pyles, Daniel Jenness, Kaleb Jenness, Avery Freyer, Morgan Freyer, Fiona Strobush and Charleigh Jones. Robert passionately loved his large, extended family.
Robert served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 366th Fighter Group, 390th Squadron. He received the Belgian Fourragere, The Distinguished Unit Citation, and the French Legion of Honor medal. He also participated in the Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington, D.C., in 2011. He was an avid ballroom dancer and enjoyed fishing, boating, and golf throughout his lifetime.
Although Robert will be greatly missed, his entire family rejoices that he is now home with his Heavenly Father and his Savior Jesus Christ, and they look forward to seeing him again one day.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Windemere Presbyterian Church, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.
