

WILMINGTON — Dr. Erol Caglarcan, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at NHRMC. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Erol was the son of the late Ahmet and Ahter Caglarcan.
Erol received two master’s degrees and a doctorate from The George Washington University. He was a successful economist in the pharmaceutical industry with several published papers in books and journals. He retired to Wilmington over a decade ago.
Erol also enjoyed reading and traveled extensively. He was an expert audiophile with a refined ear and an enduring love of classical music. He served on the boards of Chamber Music Wilmington and Carolina Vocal Arts.
Erol leaves his wife of 54 years, Louise Caglarcan; children, Erol B. Caglarcan, and his wife, Leslie W., of Wilmington, Tim Caglarcan, and his wife, Julie, of Bastrop, Texas, and Sue Caglarcan of Hampstead; three grandchildren, Will, Turner and Lila; and two brothers, Oguz (Michael) Caglarcan of Napa, Calif., and Dogan Caglarcan of Istanbul, Turkey.
Erol was preceded in death by his son, Glen Caglarcan; and his brother, Oktay Caglarcan.
A gathering was held Saturday, Dec. 10, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel. Erol will be buried next to his son, Glen, in St Mary’s Cemetery in Pringle, Penn.
