

WILMINGTON — The Rev. William Martin Wooten, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Pastor Wooten was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Lumberton, N.C., son of the late Ben Wooten and Berlie Jones Wooten. His son, William Kerry Wooten, preceded him in death.
He had been a pastor for over 54 years in North Carolina, most recently, for the past 10 years, at Sneads Ferry Pentecostal Holiness Church. Pastor Wooten had served on many conference boards and committees throughout the past 54 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Leta Rose Johnson Wooten; two daughters, Susan Lynn Wooten of Sneads Ferry and Lisa Wooten Young (Jay) of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Beth Pence (Steve), Allison Howell, Matthew Howell (Lena), Lauryn Young, Cortlyn Young, Connor Young and Camryn Young; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Gateway Church with the Rev. Wiley Clark, the Rev. Jay Young and Bishop Danny Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
