WILMINGTON — Betty Ann Whitley Wood, 84, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, N.C.

She was born December 27, 1931, in Wilmington, N.C., to the parents of Fred O. Whitley and Ida Mae Whitley of Wilmington, N.C.

Ms. Wood was a devoted wife of 32 years and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1950. She was a great cook, loved to sew, and had a love of fishing. She traveled with her husband and daughters while her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years. She worked at the Star News when she was 18 years old and later in life, worked at Climate Control for 10 years. She was a housewife for most of her life and had a very sweet spirit.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ellen Palmer and Carolyn Johnson; and brother, Sonny Whitely.

She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Bullock, and her husband, Greg Bullock, of Huntsville, Ala., Donna Brown of Wilmington, N.C., and Barbara Wood of Wilmington, N.C.; five grandchildren, Robin Bullock and Staci McMahill of Huntsville, Ala., Debra Barnes, and her husband, Greg Barnes, Jeremy Brown, and his wife, Kelly Brown, and Cody Brown, all of Wilmington, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Addison, Peyton, Josiah, Rylan, Cameron and Jackson; and two sisters, Sue Estep of Riegelwood, N.C., and Connie Averette of Wilmington, N.C.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wilmington, N.C.
