BENSON — Marie Barnes Stephens, 90, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.
She was born on April 17, 1926, in Orrum, N.C., the daughter of the late Julius Norman and Lalah Scott Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James D. Stephens; two brothers, Newton Barnes and Wilton Barnes; and a sister, Margie B. Stanley.
Ms. Stephens was a registered nurse working mainly in the surgical departments at both New Hanover Memorial Hospital and at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital. She was a devoted wife for over 65 years, and a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her favorite times were when her house was filled with the people she loved.
Surviving are her two daughters, Vicki Collins and Sharyn Klein, and her husband, Larry; six grandchildren, Bryan Konig, and his wife, Sarah, William Collins Jr., and his wife, Lorna, Traci Williams, and her husband, Gerry, Stephen Collins, and his wife, Stacie, Rhonda Fox, and her husband, Dale, and Eric Klein; six great-grandchildren; nephews, Larry Stanley, and his wife, Gilda, and Michael Barnes; nieces, Lynn Stanley, Brenda Eberhardt and Maryann Barnes; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory, Market Chapel. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends half an hour prior to the service at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory, Market Chapel.
