WILMINGTON — Andrew Lee “Andy” Simmons, 25, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016.

Born on Nov. 21, 1991, in Aiken, S.C., Andy is remembered as a special son, brother, nephew, cousin and grandson whose absence will be forever felt in his large and loving family.

Andy was a doting mama’s boy who was an athlete who never met a ball, board or sport he didn’t enjoy and couldn’t master. Andy was blessed with a special ability to see the absurd in every situation and the ability to make those around him laugh no matter how serious things may have been.

Andy is survived by his parents, Patty and Ed Ostapowicz; sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Pat Roberts; daughter, Charlotte Simmons; grandfather, Robert Boone; two stepsisters, one stepbrother, one half-brother and one half-sister; and a vast number of aunts, uncles, and a rowdy bunch of cousins whom he adored. He also leaves behind his girlfriend, Cassie Biernesser, and her daughter, Jentry; as well as father, Noel Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pat Boone; and cousin, Chris Eggleston.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the funeral home chapel.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Charlotte Layton Simmons College Education Fund and mailed to Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412.
