Lindsay Michelle Benton, born Sep. 29, 1998, passed away Sunday Aug. 28, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her father, Brad Benton of Leland, her mother, Kellie Barber Ekstrom of Wilmington, along with her step mother Kelli Anne Benton and step father Brett Ekstrom, as well as her loving brother Jarrett Benton. She is also survived by her grandparents Bernard Benton of Whiteville, Nan Benton of Leland and Ron and Linda Barber of Wilmington. She will be missed dearly by her Aunts, Uncles and cousins who were blessed by knowing and loving Lindsay.

Lindsay was a rising senior at Wilmington Christian Academy and recently stated that is was her dream to become a trauma surgeon. Being a goal oriented, driven student there is no doubt that this dream would have become a reality. She had a passion for people and their well being. She wanted to save lives and in the end, that is what she did. Lindsay made the conscience decision at the age of 16 to become an organ donor. As such, she was able, by her own sacrifice and gifts, to save multiple lives.

A public visitation is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church. A celebration of Lindsay’s life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, also at Northside Baptist Church. The Reverends Kenny Chinn and Chris Wroten will be officiating. Internment will follow at the Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be sent to:
