Christa Gay, 81, of Wilmington passed away Aug. 28, 2016 at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove. She was born Nov. 12, 1934, in Bladenboro, North Carolina, daughter of the late Marson and Myrtle Skipper.

She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1953, where she played volleyball, softball, basketball and ran track. She worked for a local pediatrician, George M. Koseruba, for 14 years before going to work for Wachovia bank.

She retired from Wachovia where she worked as a teller. Her first love was spending time with and doing things for her family. Her greatest life lesson to her children and grandchildren was, “wake up every morning and think, what can I do for someone else today,” and her life was a perfect example of that lesson. She was an active member of Winter Park Baptist Church for over 50 years. Every Sunday she prepared lunch and invited the youth from her church into her home. Her doors were always open.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill Gay. She is survived by her son Duke; daughter Donna and husband William; grandchildren Michael Page and wife, Heather, Will Page, Brandon Gay, Michelle Lewis-Hall, Khale Gay, Samantha Gay; great granddaughter’s Isabella Hall and Laila Kate Page; and step-granddaughter Ashley Dykman.

A celebration of life will be held at Winter Park Baptist Church, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC. 28401.
