SOUTHPORT — Dewey Edward Coffelt entered his heavenly home Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. He was born to John Clifford and Barbara (Lewis) Coffelt on Oct. 30, 1931, in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.
He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1949 and earned his chemistry degree at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mr. Coffelt was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Alpha Cellulose as vice president of Manufacturing, where he earned several patents. After his retirement, he opened and operated Supply Boat Company in Supply with his son, Mike.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Clifford Coffelt Jr.
He was the loving husband of 58 years to Lavata Sue (Corley); loving father of Lynn (Ray) McKinley, Sharon (Kenny) Lewis and Michael Edward Coffelt; adored grandfather of Gwen, Kristine, Jennifer, Blake, Bryan, Amanda, Tyler, Carlee and Matthew; and great-grandfather to Mariah, Asher, Nathan, Lilly, Trey, Brady and Evelyn. He is also survived by his sister, Bobbie (Robert) Walraven; and sister-in-law, Kay.
The family will welcome visitors at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Brunswick Funeral Service, 5229 Ocean Highway W., Shallotte. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. immediately following visitation.
