Richard Egan Holden, 54, cherished friend who loved with his whole heart

SOUTHPORT — Richard Egan Holden, 54, passed suddenly on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Ricky was preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel Wesley and Edna “Peggy” Barnhill Holden and Leo and Edna Jones; stepfather, William “Bill” Cordrey; and sister, Toni Lei Cheney.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Bell Cordrey; siblings, Lisa Ann Mangum (Joe), Heath Holden (Michelle), LaMonica Mergel (Cameron) and Chandra Hamel (Scott); children, Brianne Holden Hastings (Brian), Carleton Holden, Hanna Holden and Hunter Holden; nephews, Cory Brown and Harrison Hopkins; nieces, Tara Mangum, Stephanie Simonson, Erin and Isabella Holden; and his heartstring grandson, Charlie “Blue Eyes” Hastings.

Ricky was a lover of surfing, hunting, fishing and rock ‘n’ roll. He was a hard worker, a cherished friend and loved with his whole heart. He will be greatly missed.

A Ricky Holden memorial reef will be created to honor his love of the ocean. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ricky Holden Memorial Reef Fund at First Citizens Bank.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, at Southport Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. There will be a celebration from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday to celebrate Ricky’s life following the service at Marker 614 on West Street, across from Southport Marina.
