

ASH — Billy Wade Russ, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.
Billy Wade was born in Brunswick County on March 19, 1935, the son of the late Benny and Elva Leonard Russ. He was preceded in death by a son, Wade Russ.
Mr. Russ was a faithful and lifetime member of Old Shallotte Baptist Church. He was a member of Shallotte Lodge No. 727 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite, Eastern Star and the South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club. He enjoyed farming and loved his family, but most important, he loved his Lord and Savior. He never met a stranger and enjoyed fellowshipping with others.
He is survived by two children, Billy J. Russ of Ash and Jessica Wible, and her husband, Brian, of Whiteville; four grandchildren, Amanda Wible, Kaitlyn Russ, Danielle Wible and David Wible; two great-grandchildren, Malaki McDowell and Mikayla McDowell; and sister, Joyce Hardee, and her husband, O’Brien, of Little River, S.C.
A funeral service will held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Old Shallotte Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rory Thigpen, The Rev. Landis Lancaster and the Rev. Brian Wible officiating. Interment will follow in the Mintz Cemetery with Masonic Rites accorded by Shallotte Lodge #727 A.F. & A.M.
Friends are cordially invited to a time of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at White Funeral Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests, with gratitude, that memorials be directed in Billy Wade’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
