Pernell ‘Nell’ Blanton Sims, 86, owned and operated Sims Builders for 43 years

WILMINGTON — Pernell ‘Nell’ Blanton Sims, 86, went home to be with her Lord Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017.

She was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Curtis Lee Blanton and Effie Murray Blanton and was preceded in death by her son, Ricky Wayne Sims; brothers, Allen Blanton, Thomas Blanton, Carl Blanton, James Blanton, Marvin Blanton and Calvin Blanton; and sisters, Ruth Erickson, Cora Lee Wells, Hazel Dillman and Lela Mae Sharpe.

Surviving are her husband, Arvile Franklin Sims; daughters, Glenda Renee Tew, and her husband, Sandy, of Dunn, N.C., and Cynthia Janelle Sims Carter, and her husband, Glen, of Fayetteville, N.C.; daughter in-law, Susan Marie Smoot Sims of Mocksville, N.C.; grandchildren, Adam, Megan, Eric, David, Jonathan and Katherine; great-grandson, Judah; and sisters, Pinkey Blanton Kelly of Wilmington and Jewel Blanton Podaras of Melbourne, Fla.

Nell was a member of Springview Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. She and her husband, Arvile, owned and operated Sims Builders for 43 years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. There will be family visitation at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow services in the Bordeaux-Blanton Cemetery.
