Claudie Elwood ‘Woody’ Fulford, 84, owned and operated Woody’s Grocery for 63 years

SUPPLY — Claudie Elwood ‘Woody’ Fulford, 84, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at his residence.

He was born in Brunswick County on Nov. 12, 1932, the son of the late Rev. Isaiah Fulford and Mary Hewett Fulford and was preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Hewett, and a brother, Marvin Fulford.

Woody was a longtime resident of Brunswick County. He owned and operated Woody’s Grocery for 63 years. He was a graduate of Shallotte High School. Woody never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He will be greatly missed the ‘mayor of Civietown.’

Surviving are two brothers, Otis Fulford, and his wife, Evelyn, of Ravenell, S.C., and D.L. Fulford, and his wife, Olive, of Ash; and sister-in-law, Cecile Fulford of Shallotte; special friend, Joey Grzegorzyk, and fiancé, Michelle Huebner, also of Shallotte; and host of many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Fair Haven Baptist Church, 1119 Holden Beach Road, Supply, with Pastor William Chappel officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Joey Grzegorzyk, Adam Fulford, Willie Fulford, Brandon Jorgensen, Jeremy Fulford, Phillip Johnson, James Allen Hewett, W. M. Fulford and Gary Fulford.
