Sion Wicker, 75, never met a bad day

OAK ISLAND — Sion Wicker, 75, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017.

Mr. Wicker was born June 1, 1941, in Sanford to the late Elbert and Minnie Wicker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked for 33 years for Capt. Rod Sullivan in Sanford.

Sion and his wife Zada retired to Long Beach in May of 1997. After retirement, he enjoyed sitting on his porch, and would often say that his biggest decision that he had to make each day was which end of the porch to sit on. Mr. Wicker enjoyed golf, tennis, bicycle riding, traveling and surf fishing.

Sion was a very sentimental man, keeping his children and grandchildren close, even though they lived far away. He smiled all the time and never met a bad day. God called him home on the first day of spring, the day after he was baptized.

Mr. Wicker was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Griffin.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Zada “Tinker” Wicker; son, Tony Wicker of Arden; daughter, Denise Owen, and her husband, John, of Sumter, S.C.; brother, Rick Wicker, and his wife, Donna, of Sanford; grandson, Derek Owen; granddaughter, Danielle Owen; and many other friends and extended family members.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stone officiating. The family will have visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will be held at a later date in the Pinelawn Cemetery in Southern Pines.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.

Online condolences may be made at peacocknewnamwhite.com.
