SOUTHPORT — Gloria Charleen Johnson, 80, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at her home.
Mrs. Johnson was born March 30, 1936, daughter of the late Charlie and Marie James Thornburg. She found joy in camping with her family, especially the trips they took to Gatlinburg, Tenn. While they were on their adventures, she loved playing the slots, regardless the outcome! Cruises were her favorite way to travel, and she took many with her very dear friends.
She was an amazing cook and loved having her family to share it with. Her favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. She made sure she decorated everything to celebrate the seasons. Charleen loved her Lord and Savior and attended church until her health declined. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, Douglass Johnson of Southport; son, Kirk Patrick Johnson, and his wife, Christine, of Arizona; daughter, Gloria “Denise” Medlin, and her husband, Ken, of Southport; six grandchildren, Dustin, Aiden, Tristan, Kendall, Sydney and Skyler; two great-grandchildren, Kinsten and Rylie; and two very special friends, Cher Grand and Linda Grimsley.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 25, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport with the Rev. Anthony Clemmons officiating. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
