WILMINGTON — Bobby Lee Horner, 84, known to his friends as ‘Bob H.,’ died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington. Bobby was born Oct. 2, 1932, in Dyer County, Tenn., to John M. and Reba Maxwell Horner.
His brothers, John, Jerry, Don and Marion, and sister, Chloe, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, James Robert Horner (Kathy); daughter, Teresa Frogge (Mitchell); five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Toby Marr Horner (Faye).
Bob had been a resident of Wilmington since 1987, working for NAPA auto parts until his retirement in 1992. In 1993, he became involved with an organization that literally saved his life and he began his journey into sobriety working as a manager of the local Alcoholics Anonymous Intergroup Office.
He often said “we are all put on this Earth for a specific reason.” His constant wish was that he could help others find what he had found as he enjoyed the fruit of his sobriety.
Two visitations will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilmington. The first will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 4. The second will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 5. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 5. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
