

SOUTHPORT — William Lang “Bill” Stewart, 70, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017.
Mr. Stewart was born Nov. 22, 1946, in Brisbane, Australia, to Robert and Isobel Stewart. Bill became a naturalized U.S. citizen in July 2010. He had worked in the oil and gas industry for 31 years, having retired from Atwood Oceanics in Houston, Texas.
Bill was a world traveler and particularly enjoyed his travels through America. He was a big fan of NASCAR and Chevrolet. Bill loved his adopted home of Southport. He got a kick out of sitting on his porch rocker and watching the deer, squirrels and birds. Bill loved his wife Cherry, children, grandchildren and his fur-kids. He had a beautiful talent for making his friends feel loved. He will be fondly remembered for his genuine greeting of “How ya doin,’ mate?”
Bill is survived by his wife, Cherry; son, Mark Stewart, and his wife, Jody, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; daughters Jodie Clark, and her husband, Jason, of Brisbane, Australia, and Elise Stewart of Melbourne, Australia; stepson, Brandon Rees of Houston, Texas; brother, Anthony Stewart, and his wife, Maria; sisters, Karen Franklin, and her husband, Wayne, and Margaret Stewart, all of Queensland, Australia; and four grandchildren, Trent Clark, Zoe Clark, Will Stewart and Sam Stewart. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Wes and Georgeann Allen and Beverly and Jack Horan, all of Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 24, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Fred Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
