OAK ISLAND — Betty Louise Vining, 71, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Vining was born Dec. 9, 1945, in Jacksonville, Fla. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island, where she sang in the choir. Betty retired from 7/11 Convenience Stores, where she had been a store manager and worked for 35 years. She enjoyed her time laying out and swimming in the pool, sitting on her porch drinking coffee, traveling and visiting resorts and casinos.
Betty had volunteered at Dosher Memorial Hospital, and each August, she and her husband would travel to Memphis, Tenn., to attend the Elvis Presley Convention. Betty will be remembered as a great cook, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as being a caregiver for her husband.
Mrs. Vining was preceded in death by her father, William Daniel Bennett.
Survivors include her husband, Charles C. Vining Sr.; mother, Mary Green of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Randy Turner of York, S.C., and Charles C. Vining Jr. (Misty) of Oak Island; three daughters, Sandra Simmers of Rock Hill, S.C., Debra Turner (Danny) of Southport and Missy Vining of Charlotte; two brothers, Daniel Bennett and Arthur Green; two sisters, Janice Penney and Barbara Peeples; eight grandchildren, Brittney, Stephany, Leesa, Bradley, Miranda, Danielle, McKaylah and Emily; and two great-grandchildren, Kole and Scarlet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at First Baptist Church of Oak Island. The family will have visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
