Betty Jo Presnell Sloop, 80, affectionately known as “Bo Bo,” passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 12, 1936, the daughter of the late Bynum Tillett Presnell Sr. and Ethel Magnolia Hollar Presnell. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Loraine Sloop Sr.; daughter, Susan Elaine McBurney, and her husband, Daniel McBurney; son, Edward Lorraine Sloop Jr.; brother, Bynum Tillett Presnell Jr. (Judy); and sister, Nettie Sue Williamson (Joe).
Betty Jo was a loving and generous lady who loved her family and friends. She was a faithful member of Long Leaf Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being with her friends. Betty was an avid bowler, bible reader, bingo player and puzzle worker.
She is survived by two nieces, Debbie Peterson and (Robert) and Pam Yarboro and (Craig); three nephews, Joey Williamson (Linda), Bruce Presnell (Marci) and Chris Presnell (Carmen); four great-nephews, Pete Peterson (Mendy), Jamie Williamson, Zack Presnell and Cameron Presnell; three great-nieces, Brandy Hughes, Ashley Lord and Sofia Presnell; two granddaughters, Jamie Shea and Kaitlyn Sloop (mom, Thomasina); and grandson, Michael Patton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 21, at Andrews Valley Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 22, at Long Leaf Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Joshua Reilly. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the ICU at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their support and kindness through this difficult time along with the palliative care team who assisted us in her last hours. We would also like to thank the many friends who loved Betty Jo and helped in her day-to-day activities along with her Lake Shore Commons Family.
