CAROLINA BEACH — Loren D. Johnston, 85, of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at his residence with his wife and daughter.
Born Sept. 11, 1931 in Brainerd, Minnesota, he is a son of Wallace Irvin Johnston and Elizabeth Amanda Paulson Johnston. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Marlin Johnston; and his brother-in-law, Jim Boser.
Loren is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanette L. Johnston; his children, Susan Johnston of Carolina Beach, Kevin Johnston of Brazil, Kristie Milne of Wilmington, North Carolina, Kelly Roberts and husband, Scott of Baltimore, Maryland, and Bryon Johnston and wife, Julia of Baltimore; his grandchildren, Kyle Johnston, Ashley Shadoin, Andrew Johnston, Mikaela Howard, Morgan Milne, Logan Milne, Miriah Moury, Britney O’Metz and Stephanie Morris; his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Benjamin Ruby, Jasper, Evan, Kaylie, Trinity, and Brandon; his siblings, Jewel Schilling and husband, Al, Wallace Johnston and wife, Hope, Madonna Boser, Robert Johnston and wife, Lynn, Darlene Hillman and husband, Walt, Diane Larson; and numerous extended family.
He was a loyal and dedicated employee of ChemMetals for 35 years. Moving with them from Minnesota to West Virginia and finally to Baltimore, Maryland. From there he retired to North Carolina.
Loren was dedicated to helping others. He served his fellow man on four mission trips to Guyana, as well as locally with Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry (WARM). When he became physically unable to do the work with WARM he still went to work sites in a supervisory capacity. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and past member of Pine Valley UMC, at both churches he was recognized for his volunteer work.
He was a master of all trades and was only content when the job was completed to the highest of standards. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
