

WILMINGTON — Elmer Douglas DeVane, 71, passed away on Sept. 23, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Hospital. Mr. DeVane was born in Wilmington on June 6, 1945, to the late Thomas Jonathan DeVane and Leona Estelle Brown DeVane.
Mr. DeVane was a Deacon at Wrightsboro Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Grizzle DeVane; daughters, Kimberly Barnhill and husband, Matt, of Rocky Point, and Ashley Britt, of Castle Hayne; brother, T.J. DeVane and wife, Alice; sisters, Vera Smith, Carolyn “Ninky” Barnhill, Josephine Kelly and husband, John; and two grandchildren Vance and Lanie Barnhill. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Durwood DeVane and Wesley DeVane.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 1-2 p.m. at the Wrightsboro Baptist Church, located at 2736 Castle Hayne Road, Wilmington, NC. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Rev. Mike Lewis and Dr. Brad Harrison will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Handyman Ministry, or the Building and Grounds committee of Wrightsboro Baptist Church.
