

WILMINGTON — Joseph H. Farr, 76, of Wilmington, North Carolina, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, in the company of his family, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1940, in Wilmington, to the late Robert Bernice Farr and Mary Emma Fennell Farr.
Mr. Farr spent his life in Wilmington, where he worked in the insurance business, played a variety of sports, refereed youth athletics at almost every level, played golf, and enjoyed dancing, especially shagging to beach music. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, serving on the Vestry, as head usher and in many other ways throughout the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Gilbert Farr, and brothers, Tommy and Bobby Farr.
Survivors include his daughters, Neah Jo Farr and Erika Leigh Farr; step-daughter, Melanie Gilbert Reinke; step-sons, Shawn “Skip” Gilbert and Dell Anglin; grandchildren, Leonardo and Ludovico Zirilli, Lauren and Lillian Gilbert, Walter Reinke, Veda, Emma and Sara Anglin, and Cade and Cassidy Klimasewski; brother, Eddie Farr; sisters, Judy Farr Stallings and Mary Ann Farr White; longtime companion, Pat Robertson Rice; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of wonderful friends around the Port City.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 16 N. 16th St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
