

WILMINGTON — Joseph Cleveland Hyatt, 78, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at his home.
He was born on May 19, 1938, in Brown Marsh Township in Bladen County, N.C., to Rowland and Blanche Hyatt. Joseph, also known as “Buddy,” grew up in Clarkton, N.C., and moved to Wilmington in 1996, where he worked for General Electric from 1970 to 1999.
Joseph “Buddy” and Louise Hyatt were happily married for 41 years. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Joe is survived by his second wife, Linda Hyatt; his children, Joey Hyatt, Ronnie Hyatt and Yvonne Hughes; a sister, Betty Merritt; grandchildren, Joseph Hughes, Cassandra Hughes, Marissa Hyatt and Danielle Hyatt; and great-grandson, Brayden Hyatt.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Lewis officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, Bolton, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery, 4658 Old Lake Road, Bolton, NC 28423.
