BOILING SPRINGS LAKES — Virginia Mae Rahrs, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016.

Virginia was born May 7, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Cora White.

Virginia loved reading, swimming and fishing. She was a certified Red Cross swimming instructor and a certified scuba diver.

She became a registered nurse after starting college at age 38 and receiving her diploma at age 42 from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas. Virginia was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Emery Rahrs; six children, Elizabeth Jensen, Margaret Chestnut, Penelope Leonard, Joanne Napier, Tammy Klinedinst and Emery Rahrs II, along with their spouses; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Mullins and Mary Huggins. Preceding her in death was a brother, Edwin White; and a sister, Margaret Poe.

The family will hold a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home in Southport. A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, Jan. 3, in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.
