

SHALLOTTE — Richard Barry Frink died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016. He was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Columbus County, the youngest child of Grady and Ruby Frink.
After graduating from Tabor City High School, he attended North Carolina State College. He then joined the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier. He owned and operated Western Auto, then Coastal Tire before retiring.
Barry loved being in his boats out on the inland waterway, working his garden and NC State basketball.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Caroline; parents; and brother, David. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Birdie, he is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann and Jill, and son-in-law, Steve; grandsons Joshua, Banyan and Kyle; and sister, Carolyn Mellott.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Camp United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the services.
