WILMINGTON — Wilma Elizabeth “Nana” Singletary Tolar passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, surrounded by her devoted family.

Nana was born in Bladen County to the late Leila Grimes Singletary and Jack Singletary. She married Zebulon Vance (Bill) Tolar, and after his return from World War II, they lived in Southern Pines. She remained in Southern Pines until moving to Wilmington in 2015.

Nana was an excellent seamstress, whose talents were recognized throughout the community and appreciated by her family. She loved traveling over the years, enjoying many road trips, especially with her granddaughters and dear friends. Spring was her favorite season, and she was known for her love of gardening. Nana was a central part of every family gathering and will be greatly missed. She was a member at Tar Heel Baptist Church, and later, First Baptist Church of Southern Pines.

Nana was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Bill Tolar, as well as a brother, Lynn Singletary, of Tar Heel. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Tolar Parks of Wilmington; grandchildren, Kristin Parks, and her husband, Dallas Pridgen, and their daughters, Bess and Virginia of Chapel Hill, and Jennifer Pate, and her husband, Joe, and daughters, Lydia and Audrey of Wilmington; brother and sister-in-law, Ballard and Almeda Singletary of Stover, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mavis Singletary of Tar Heel; and nephews and nieces, Connie Smith, Billy Singletary, Jackie Singletary and Wanda Herring, and their families.

A family memorial service will be held at Tar Heel Baptist Church in January.
