Stephen Carlton Carr Sr., 79, Navy veteran and CP&L retiree

SOUTHPORT – Stephen Carlton Carr Sr., 79, passed away Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at Palmetto Heath Richland, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Mr. Carr was born Feb. 17, 1937, in Burgaw, North Carolina, to the late Stephen A. and Annie Louise Rivenbark Carr.

He attended Burgaw High School and then spent 20 years in the US Navy. He married the late Judith A. Hickcock Carr. Together they raised five children. Mr. Carr retired from the US Navy and attended The Citadel until 1976 when he moved to Southport to work at CP&L.

His interests and hobbies included hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Survivors include his five children: Carlton J. Carr and wife Mary, Lisa G. Carr, Dorothy C. Bolduc, Stephanie Drew and husband Ronnie, and Stephen C. Carr Jr. and wife Donna; six grandchildren, Edward Joseph Bolduc, III, Tad Mintz, Amanda Carr and fiancé Jeremy Hennel, Stephen Drew and wife Maria, Brandi Carr, and William Brent Drew; a step grandchild, Tonya Burgess and husband Josh; two great grandchildren, Caden Bolduc and Aria Hannel; and three step great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Levi, and Kendall Burgess.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, in the Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Charles Drew officiating. The graveside committal service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Burgaw.

The family will have visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service in Southport.
