

WILMINGTON — Doris Tart Chinnis, 86, was born Sept. 13, 1930. She passed peacefully Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
She is survived by her two sons, Timothy W. Tart of Wilmington and Tony W. Tart of Rocky Point; two grandchildren, Ronald Dallas Tart and Whitney Brooke Hall; and two sisters; Faye Ennis of Angier and Barbara Meeks of Benson.
Mrs. Chinnis was born in Benson, N.C., to parents Paul and Bessie Creech. She married Warren G. “Brownie” Tart and moved to Wilmington, N.C., in the mid 1950s. She first was employed at Timmie Corporation Textile Mill and then, at Roses Department Store in the Personnel Dept. Later, she attended Ogden Advent Christian Church and worked as the church secretary. She also worked several years as a department manager at Walmart.
Mrs. Chinnis was also a deaconess and on the board of Spiritual Affairs at Ogden Advent Christian Church. Some years after Warren Tart’s death, she married William Chinnis and attended Long Leaf Baptist Church, where she had been a member for over 20 years.
Memorial services for Mrs. Chinnis will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
