Dorsey Simuel ‘Simmie’ Yonce, 68, owned and operated Yonce Motor and Tire

OAK ISLAND — Dorsey Simuel ‘Simmie’ Yonce, 68, formerly of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Mr. Yonce was born Oct. 1, 1948, the son of the late Vasco Simuel and Gladys Rawls Yonce. He had attended Winthrop Training School and graduated from Rock Hill High School and Gardner – Webb University. Mr. Yonce had owned and operated Yonce Motor and Tire in Rock Hill. He retired in January 2016, turning the business over to his son, and moved to Oak Island.

Simmie was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill and attended Generations Church in Southport. In his retirement, he had worked part time at Oak Island Sporting Goods and Elite Cabinets. Simmie loved his boat and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Phyllis ‘Phyll’ Yonce; son, Zachery Simuel Yonce, and his wife, Christine, of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Gage Zachery Yonce and Gavin William Yonce; two sisters-in-law, Sophie Smith and Judy Lyon; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 17, at Generations Church, Southport. A second memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, March 20, at Oakland Baptist Church, Rock Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Generations Church, 4874 Old Long Beach Road S.E., Southport, NC 28461; or Oakland Baptist Church, 1067 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
