WILMINGTON — Marjorie Davis Lyon, 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 18, 2017, surrounded by family. Margie was born to Marion C. Davis and Beatrice Balch Davis in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 14, 1940.

She spent her early years living in Charlotte, where she graduated from Myers Park High School and went on to Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, Virginia, to study retail marketing.

She spent 29 years in Winston Salem raising her family. Anyone who knew Margie knew her love of the beach and ocean. She spent much of her time at her second home in Emerald Isle where she was an avid shell collector and sun goddess. She later moved to Newport, North Carolina, and subsequently, Wilmington, so she could be closer to the beautiful landscape she loved. She had an enthusiasm for life and deeply loved her family.

Margie is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, William H. Lyon; daughters, Marion Hanes (Derek) of Boones Mill, Virginia, Margie Helms (Jeff) of Big Sky, Montana, Barbara Beal (George) of Boston, Massachusetts, Nancy Lyon of Chicago, Illinois, and Judy Chapin (Greg) of Atlanta, Georgia. She loved her nine grandchildren, Currie and Palmer Hanes, George and William Helms, Charlotte Beal, Billy and Melanie Tomaszewski, and Christopher and Michael Chapin. Margie was known to everyone she met as a vibrant, loving and wonderful wife, mother, Ganny and friend. She was loved by so many and will be missed beyond words.

The family will have a celebration of life this summer at Emerald Isle.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Margie’s memory may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physician’s Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
