Bowman Lafayette, 84, banker with The National Bank of Washington

SUNSET BEACH – Lafayette Bowman, 84, of Sunset Beach passed away Sept. 4, 2016.

He was born in Washington, DC, on Jan. 24, 1932, the only child of Lafayette Riggs Bowman and Annie Hulme Bowman. He grew up in Arlington, VA.

He was involved in the banking business for 33 years with The National Bank of Washington, retiring in 1989. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He spent many happy hours reading stories to the children. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a Deacon, an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher. After retiring in 1989 he and his wife, Ann, moved to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, where he enjoyed the beach, traveling and woodworking.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann Flack Bowman; son, Robert Riggs Bowman (Marjorie); daughter, Ellen Lynn Hincher (David); grandchildren, Elizabeth Paige Bowman, The Rev. Heather Leigh Wray (Daniel), Emily Grace Hincher, and Caroline Ann Hincher; great grandchild, Nora Leigh Wray; sister-in-law Linda McKeller (Mike); brother-in-law Max E. Blake; four nephews and two nieces.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, from Seaside United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
