Jerold W. Lewis, 78, employed as a land surveyor for over 25 years

WILMINGTON — The Rev. Jerold W. LewisV, 78, left his earthly body for the loving arms of Jesus Monday, March 27, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with his loving wife at his side.

Born Sept. 18, 1938, in Wilmington, he was a son of Simeon Francis Lewis Jr. and Flossie Mae Robbins Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only child, Melissa Lewis Vansel.

He is survived by his best friend, caregiver and apple of his eye for 59 years, Mildred Efird Lewis; grandson, Dustin L. Vansel; brother, Kenneth W. Lewis; sister-in-law, Linda Blake; brother-in-law, Wayne Efird, and his wife, Emily; and numerous extended family members.

The Rev. Lewis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from New Hanover High School and Coastal Carolina. He had worked locally as a land surveyor for over 25 years. He was an avid golfer in his leisure. He will be remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Andrews Valley Chapel.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
