SHALLOTTE — Douglas MacArthur Huddle, 74, died after a long illness Wednesday, April 12, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Chester, Penn., to Ernest and Virginia Lundy Huddle. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by siblings, Everett, Dickie, Mildred and Lee.
Doug was faithful in whatever he did. At age 12, he delivered newspapers and milk before school. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He was Central Office supervisor for Atlantic Telephone Membership Cooperative for 34 years and served as a sound tech for local churches for 42 years.
Doug served on the Gurganus Cemetery Committee and as president of the Shallotte Jaycees. A master of all trades, he loved wood working, photography, gardening and building things along with the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Kaidan.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 52 years, Sandra Kinlaw; children, Troy, Sheila (Dan Brothers) and Brian; granddaughter, Kaidan; numerous nieces and nephews; and siblings, twin sister, Edith, and brother, Larry; and sister-in-law, Barbara.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be in Gurganus Cemetery.
