Kathryn (Kay) Perdew White Minnick, 90, warm, kind, and compassionate

WILMINGTON – Kathryn (Kay) Perdew White Minnick, native Wilmingtonian, died peacefully at her home on Sept. 11, 2016.

Kay, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend, was born to the late John William and Florence Renneker Perdew at the former James Walker Memorial Hospital on Dec. 23, 1925.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Ellis White Jr.; her second husband, Daniel K. Minnick; children, Charles Ellis White III and Kathryn Perdew White; and brother, William (Bill) Edgar Perdew.

She was a graduate of New Hanover High School and attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and volunteered with the Wilmington Social Service League, now the Junior League of Wilmington. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church. She served as secretary for both Winter Park Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church.

She was the matriarch of her family and a pillar of strength. She practiced her Christian beliefs devotedly throughout her life. She handled life’s hardships with a gentle, yet unwavering resilience through her faith in God. She dedicated herself to loving and caring for her family. She was warm, kind, and compassionate to everyone she met. She will be exceedingly missed by all who had the honor to love her.

She is survived by: her daughter, June White Ingram, of the home; granddaughters Shannon Perdew Ingram of Wilmington, North Carolina, Kelly Lauren Ingram and her husband, Jonathan Pierson, of Anchorage, Alaska, Beth White Bailey and her husband, Chad Bailey, of Elberton, Georgia, Ashley White Betanzos and her husband, Freddie Betanzos, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Christie White of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Moore Perdew, of Wilmington; daughter-in-law, Harriet White Taylor; cousin Mary Coggeshall, her husband Porter Coggeshall, and their two children, Windsor and Dove Coggeshall.

A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church on Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the Chapel from 1 p.m. until the service hour. An internment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The ALS Association or the American Cancer Society, in honor of her two children who preceded her in death, or to First Presbyterian Church.
