OAK ISLAND — Phillip Gustatinos Venis, 63, formerly of Hillsborough, N.J., passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Venis was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Somerville, N.J., son of Ouida Venis and the late Gustatinos Venis. While living in New Jersey, he became a New Jersey Certified Tree Expert and member of International Society of Arboriculture and the Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 2.
Mr. Venis belonged to several organizations; such as, Fraternal Order of Eagles in New Jersey, Elks Club in Somerville, N.J., Loyal Order of Moose-Raritan, New Jersey Lodge, and a Master Mason-Princeton Lodge No.38. He became a lifetime member of VFW in Oak Island and was currently working with Brunswick County Parks and Recreation.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Venis of Oak Island; mother, Ouida Venis of Bridgewater, N.J.; son, Phil Venis of Oak Island; daughter, Monica Beth Venis, and her fiancé, Lonnie Futch, of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Penelope Venis Vogt and Pamela Venis May, both of Middlesex, N.J.; three grandchildren, Bailey Davis, Brooklyn Venis and Brentley Venis; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 21, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville, N.J. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, May 22, at Cusick Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at the VFW, Oak Island.
