Carl F. Shirdon Jr., 74, known for his hard work and generosity

SHALLOTTE — Carl F. Shirdon Jr., 74, went peacefully to be with the Lord Friday, May 19, 2017, at home with his beloved wife, Janet, by his side surrounded by family.

He was born March 16, 1943, in Lilly, Pa., and raised in Cresson, Penn. In 1961, he moved to Maryland for better opportunities.

He and Janet resided in Maryland for 33 years, where they raised their family. They both had a love for long walks on the beach, fishing, and boating — which led them on a new adventure to Shallotte, N.C., where they spent the past 22 years. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his selfless hard work and generosity.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Carl Shirdon Sr.; brother, Jim Shirdon; and sister-in-law, Ann West.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet Shirdon; daughters, Terry Bradburn, and her husband, Greg, and Karen Galdamez, and her husband, Alberto; son, Patrick Shirdon, and his wife, Donna; dear sister, Mary Lou Diehl; sister-in-law, Andrea Shirdon; eight grandchildren, Juan, Carlos and Tony Galdamez, Elizabeth Parise, and her husband, Tony, Michelle and Samuel Bradburn, and Andrew and Andrea Shirdon; three great-grandchildren, Judah, Aria and Hazel Parise; several aunts, nieces, nephews, and especially his big-hearted nephew, John West.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, 5101 Ocean Highway W., Shallotte. Interment will take place at a later date in Cresson, Penn.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Shallotte Point Volunteer Fire Department, 4126 Pigott Road SW, Shallotte NC 28470.
