

HAMPSTEAD — Guy John Deodato, 87, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, at his home surrounded by his wife of 63 years and his grandchildren, Katelynn Horney, Samantha Suarez and Bryson Horney.
Guy was born on New Year’s Eve 1928 in Brooklyn to Joseph and Ann Deodato, both deceased. He attended Haran High School of Aviation, and upon graduation, entered the U.S. Naval Reserve at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn. During the Korean conflict, he served five years in the U.S. Navy and in that time he met Clare Bryson, whom he married in 1953. They settled in Brooklyn, where upon he entered the New York City Fire Department, a career that lasted 30 years. Upon retirement, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in New York.
In 1994, fed up with ice and snow, Guy purchased property in Hampstead and had his dream house built. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
Guy is survived by his wife, Clare; daughter, Clareanne; son, Matthew, and his wife, Kristen; sister, Jacqueline; and brother-in-law, Pat; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Guy’s two oldest sons predeceased him.
Guy was a loving, devoted gentleman who lived only for God, country and family. May he rest in eternal peace.
Guy’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at All Saints Church in Hampstead with Father John Durbin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made to All Saints Building Fund, 18737 U.S. Highway 17, Hampstead, NC.
His motto was, “Live well, laugh often, love Much”
