WILMINGTON — Frances “Fran” Bennett Summerlin, 79, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016, at Autumn Care of Shallotte. She was born to the late Gladys Galloway Lewis (husband, Anson Lewis) and the late Samuel Thomas Bennett.

Fran was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very caring and loving toward family, friends and animals. She was an active member of Oleander United Methodist Church and was well remembered for co-owning Mama & Pop’s Christmas Tree Farm.

Surviving are her husband, Herman I. Summerlin Jr.; daughter, Patti Allen; grandchildren, Trey Neville (wife, Kelly), Brett Neville (wife, Heather) and Courtney Allen; great-granddaughter, Alayna Allen; and sister-in-law, Joanne Summerlin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Campbell; and many cousins.

Pallbearers are Chuck Miller, Darrel Nester, Mark Hooker, Harold Miller Jr., John Campbell and Paul Jordan. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Leon West Sunday School Class.

A funeral service will be held  at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, with the Rev. Tara Lane officiating at Oleander United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Autumn Care of Shallotte, N.C.

Memorials may be made in Fran’s honor to the Oleander United Methodist Church and Amedisys Hospice Care of Bolivia, N.C.
