WILMINGTON — Mary L. Davis, 86, daughter of Julius Mac Long and Fanny Smith Long, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington surrounded by her beloved husband and children. She was born on March 22, 1930.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Manly Davis Jr. of Wilmington, their son and daughters, Ronald W. Davis DDS, Debra D. Snyder, and her husband, Dr. Frank A Snyder, and Pamela D. Simpson, and her husband, Richard D. Simpson RPh; grandchildren, Ashley D. Banker, and her husband, Christopher Banker, R. Scott Davis DDS, and his wife, Cristina Davis, Alan N.F. Snyder, Michelle D. Salyga, and her husband, Peter Salyga, and Kevin R. Simpson; and great-grandson, Easton B. Banker.

Mary was a woman ahead of her time. On her own, at the tender age of 18, she put herself through nursing school and Kings College Business School of Raleigh, while being a part-time disc jockey at WTPF Raleigh Radio. She volunteered for UVA Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Cape Fear Museum and was an active member of Temple Baptist Church of Wilmington with a strong faith in Christ.

She exemplified deep love for her family, standing shoulder to shoulder with her beloved husband, Manly, and taught everyone what it is to be a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a heart that could pierce your soul and see right through you. She made our world brighter from her having been in it, and we will be eternally grateful for the example she set. The treasured memories of her will live forever in our hearts.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Mary’s name.
